The National Band Association has announced the inaugural recipient of the Al and Gladys Wright Distinguished Legacy Award is Colonel Hal Gibson. The Al and Gladys Wright Distinguished Legacy Award is presented for lifetime achievement rather than for a single contribution, no matter how monumental. Nominees must have a minimum of 30 years of distinguished service to the profession, supporting the mission and goals of the National Band Association, which include the promotion of the concert band and concert band music, teaching, mentorship, scholarship, and service to the band profession. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor, Colonel Gibson!

The award was presented by past president of the National Band Association, Dr. David Greogory, at the December 8 & 9, 2021 concerts of the Melbourne Municipal Band in Melbourne, Florida. This was the first time on stage for the band following the pandemic. Staci Rosbury, conductor and Hal Gibson, guest conductor.
